Hope for girls, hope for the future

Girls at Byumba Pres School receiving menstrual kits

In 2019, Kellermann Foundation volunteers Mara and Lauren helped bridge a partnership between the Batwa Development Program (BDP) and Days for Girls International. Days for Girls’ mission is to increase access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating social enterprises, mobilizing volunteers and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigma and limitations for women and girls.

Mara and Lauren worked with Penelope Turyamureeba in the Batwa Women’s Centre to provide feminine hygiene education and products to Batwa women and girls. Their project also yielded income generating opportunities for the Batwa who now sew and produce menstrual hygiene kits for the entire region, including Batwa settlements, schools, and beyond. We are thankful for Penelope, Mara, and Lauren for spearheading this project of hope and health.

Penelope’s work among the Batwa will be featured in an upcoming newsletter. Sign up below to receive our quarterly newsletter.
