Bwindi Community Hospital
The 155-bed facility provides approximately 40,000 inpatient and outpatient consultations annually including maternal health, neonatal and pediatrics, surgeries, HIV treatment, community health, dental and vision, diagnostics, laboratory, mental health, chronic care, emergency and ambulance service, and health insurance. The next generation of healthcare professionals train on-site at Uganda Nursing School Bwindi and Uganda College of Health Sciences Bwindi.
Accomplishments
Bwindi Community Hospital provides:
• Prenatal care, waiting mothers’ hostel, and delivery of over 1,000 babies by a midwife or obstetrician including regular and Cesarean-section births
• Care for critically ill children with 100% malnutrition recovery
• Over 1,200 surgeries annually including orthopedic, urinary, and reproductive
• HIV treatment suppressing viral load by 93% and mother-to-child HIV transmission to less than 1%
• Doorstep delivery of medicines including immunizations to outpatients and the most disadvantaged clients
• Collaborations with world-class medical schools and hospitals worldwide
